16th Birthday, Quinceanera, Birthday Party, High School, Celebration
They Might Be Thinking:
I can’t wait until I am old enough to go on a date without a chaperone.
I don't feel old enough to make all of my own decisions, but I want to start having more control over my life.
I will be graduating from high school in two years. I don't have a clue as to what I want to do yet.
Should I consider being more intimate with my girlfriend/boyfriend now that I am 16?
Am I old enough to start wearing more makeup?
Am I old enough to be sexually active?
Will my parents start seeing me as older now?
Will potential love interests look at me differently now that I'm 16?
Will all of my loved ones/family/friends be able to attend my sweet 16 party?
What are the odds of getting pregnant if I have unprotected sex?
Words That Might Be Encouraging:
Sixteen is a great age to begin getting serious about what you want to do with your life.
You don't need to have everything figured out yet, but it's a good time to start investigating areas of interest.
You are maturing more and more every day. Take it one step at a time.
There is no need to rush in any area of your life.
This is your life to live. Don't let anyone tell you how to live your life... including me.
You are already worth a million dollars. Never confuse what you do with who you are.
You don't need "likes" for validation by people on the internet.
Your happiness is your responsibility. No one can make you feel bad, unless you let them.
No one is happy all of the time. It's okay to have a bad day once in a while.
Take a measured approach to opening yourself up to other individuals. You don't want to be taken advantage of by people that prey on the young and innocent.
Always wear you seat belt.
Keep learning as if you are going to live forever. Live as if today could be your last.
Cherish your close frienships. Your high school friends may, someday, be your most cherished.
Take care of your body, not your jean size. A number on the scale is not you. Nor is society’s perception of your beauty. What is important is that you tend to your health and wellness so you can be the best version of you.
Don’t waste your time on people who make you feel bad about yourself. Life is short.
Learn patience and persistence.
Don't take yourself too seriously. Always make a point to laugh at yourself every day.
Don't just hear; really listen when others speak.
Turn off your cell phone once a week for four hours just to unplug from the universe for a while.
If you decide to become intimate with someone, can we just talk about it before you go through with it?
Words That Might Be Discouraging:
It's just another birthday.
What's so special about today?
Everything is only downhill from here.
Your high school years are the best years of your life.
I wish I could go back to age 16 and start life all over again.
Now that you are 16, you should be able to make all of your decisions on your own.
I don't care what you do. Just don't come home pregnant.
